Painting in 3-D

Painting in 3-D, 2004 - 2007 While continuing his paintings, Xu was commissioned to make a 3-Dimensional "painting" -- an architectural landscape -- that would encompass his theories of Eastern and Western visual experience. This three acre "piece" which took four years to construct, contains Eastern elements of "borrowed views", curved spaces, and breathing (or "qi") structures along with Western understanding of colors and mass.
